"When a female bodyguard is hired to protect a rich playboy, she finds saving his life is easier than protecting her heart."
When the past and present collide...
Somebody wants rich playboy Franco Callahan dead. When security expert Josephine Fortune arrives on his doorstep thanks to his sister Doriana, Franco finds it hard to refuse. He's had a secret attraction for the diminutive bodyguard since they met at Doriana's wedding five years before.
But attraction is all it is. Combat boot-clad Jo is not the kind of woman Franco usually loves and leaves. Which makes the ruse that Jo is his new live-in girlfriend just that until Jo gets a makeover. Suddenly seduction is on his mind and Franco has all the time in the world to pursue it—and Jo.
Martial artist Jo can take down men twice her size without blinking, but Franco's appeal outmaneuvers her emotional defenses. Jo's tough exterior hides a dark past, and Franco seems determined to learn her every secret. But he has secrets of his own.
The more Franco gets to know Jo, the more he realizes he needs her in his life, and not as his bodyguard. But as the threats to Franco escalate, Jo must use every one of her combat skills to protect him.
Can Jo keep both Franco and her heart safe, or will they pay the ultimate price for love?

I want to thank Adult Cover (And Everything in Between) for having me today. Cool name, by the way. I was told I could write what I wanted, which is also cool. After some thought, I decided to write about places I’ve visited and written about, and some I’ve yet to write about. They say to write what you know, which is good advice. It’s easy to do research on places you’ve not visited, then write realistically about them, but it’s more fun to actually see those places. Traveling opens the mind in many ways. My husband I enjoy traveling, and I like to make up stories set in the countries and cities we visit.

The very first book I wrote was set on a ranch in Wyoming. This is where the “write what you know” rule comes in. I’m East Coast born and bred. I’ve never been on a ranch, and the only time I was in Wyoming was on a cross-country train trip when we went through that state. I thought a ranch in Wyoming was exotic. That book never sold. I finally broke down and wrote a book set in a place I thought boring, but that I know well, my hometown of Wilmington, Delaware. And wonder of wonders, that book, A Catered Affair, sold to Avalon Books. I revised it when I got the rights back, and it’s now available under the title A Catered Romance. Maybe Delaware isn’t so boring after all.

Most of my books are set at the Delaware beaches, the Jersey Shore, Philadelphia, and other parts of Pennsylvania, all places I know intimately. My Redemption series, of which Franco’s Fortune is the second book, is set in Philadelphia. I love Philadelphia. It has something for every taste.

I’ve visited other places and set stories there. I fell in love with Maine on a vacation to that state years ago. It’s beautiful with a wild coastline that lends itself to dark and spooky stories. Stephen King lives in Maine, and he’s all about dark and spooky. My werewolf paranormal, Cursed Mates, is set in Maine. This is a very scary story, and Maine is the perfect setting.

We visited Hawaii a while back and I’m plotting a story set there. Hawaii has to be one of the most beautiful places in the world, perfect for romance.

In 2006, my husband and I visited Italy. It was my second trip there, his first. Italy is such a magnificent country. We toured Rome, Pompeii, Capri. We even spent time with my relatives in the province of Abruzzo. I really wanted to write a book set in Italy, and was trying to come up with a plot. Soon after that trip, The Wild Rose Press, one of my publishers at the time, put out a call for a series of romantic suspense stories that could be set anywhere in the world. Each story had to involve a blue diamond. I had my Italy story. Murder, Mi Amore was published in 2010 by The Wild Rose Press. I’ve since gotten back the rights and published it myself. Most of the story takes place in Italy. Every bit of setting is authentic. The food I mention is some of the same food we ate on that trip. The places are places we visited. There’s even a chapter set in my family’s town in Abruzzo. What fun writing that book! It was like being in Italy all over again. The ending is set in Las Vegas, a place my husband and I visit at least once a year as our son lives there. I must write a story set completely in Vegas.

I’m working on a very steamy romance set on the Isle of Capri. That island off the coast of Italy is one of the sexiest places on Earth. That story, Capri Nights, will be released in 2015.

Australia is another exotic, beautiful country. I visited there once for a multi-national family reunion. I would love to go back and I would love to set a story there.

I’ve visited London and would love to write a story set in that beautiful city. Other places I love that would make terrific story settings are Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Sedona, Arizona.

While anyone can research any place with accuracy, visiting them lends a stronger air of authenticity to any story. And it’s fun to plot out a story as I’m touring a new place.

What about you readers? Any places you love that you want to see as a setting in a book? Do you enjoy stories set in exotic locales?
